JDR to supply inter-array cable to Moray West offshore wind farm

Hartlepool UK: JDR,the global subsea cable supplier and servicer, owned by TFKable Group, has been awarded a contract by Seaway 7 ASA to supply a 66kV subsea inter-array cable for the Moray West offshore wind farm, located in the Moray Firth, Scotland.

JDR will supply 139km of 66kV array cable and accessories that will connect the 60 wind turbines at the 882 MW offshore wind farm. Moray West is owned by Ocean Winds which plans to have the project operational by 2024/25.

JDR won the contract through a competitive tender due to its strong technical capabilities and ability to overcome project challenges. The layout of the wind farm between two offshore platforms requires a continuous length of over 14km.

John Price, Sales Director at JDR, comments: “Moray West has an essential role to play in the energy transition and as a UK manufacturer we are delighted to have won this contract to support the UK energy market.”

The cables will be manufactured at JDR’s state-of-the-art facility in Hartlepool, UK, before being installed on the project in October 2023.

Stuart Redpath at Seaway 7 ASA added: “JDR took on the challenge and came to us with new ideas to increase manufacturing capacity and the transportation of long array cable cores. We know we can trust JDR as a supplier to deliver to a technically high standard, having partnered on previous offshore wind projects. We are very much looking forward to delivering this one together for Moray Offshore West ltd.”
